"Shrugging" is a massive over-simplification of our Governor's response. He and his Director of Public Health spoke at length about the risks undertaken by the protesters, how they vary from the risks of an arena crowd and how they don't, howthey should be protecting themselves, and the importance of protecting the first amendment rights of US citizens.

It's probably no coincidence that the Venn diagram of people complaining about the response to these protests and the people standing behind the Re-Open NC protests is very nearly a circle.

i would think and by no means have a i researched this much just being outside is safer than being in a confined space with recycled air

A majority of protesters are wearing masks, as well. If you can get basketball players to wear masks while playing then maybe?!

Also, businesses are beginning to open up. So, just chill till the next episode

God, I would love to have someone stitch together a split screen of Trump talking and the protesters getting nailed with pepper balls with matched up time codes. It'd be great to see them getting blasted at exactly the moment he was calling himself an ally to all peaceful protesters.

I'm still really worried about what's going to happen in the next few weeks. The protests are outside, and the weather is warmer, which are both things they've speculated could make the virus harder to transmit. And having seen one of the massive NYC marches firsthand for a brief period, it seemed like the overwhelming majority of people were wearing masks.

So while it's definitely different and likely better than something like a convention in an arena, I still wouldn't be surprised if there's an uptick in the next few weeks. Or it could be longer than that, as it may get worse when protesters bring it back to individuals they may be living with.

It's pretty ridiculous to ascribe responsible social distancing and hygiene standards to thousands of people running around the streets at midnight getting gassed. They weighed the risk and decided it was more important to take a stand. We don't have to do mental gymnastics to pretend a lot of people aren't going to get sick from it just because it would make us feel good.
