It isn't about surfing. It's a metaphorically open song that lets you decide what it's about, even if it's primarily about writing songs and inspiration. It could be about four our five things and I don't think it matters. But the title came from Ed's surfboard and T-shirt, I reckon. On the PJ Unplugged video, Ed describes "Oceans" as "a little song I wrote about my surfboard", so Lightning Bolt is in good company.
I realize this, I'm just saying "no" to that particular aspect. Anyone who wants to embrace it, carry on.

Deep down every pearl jam song is about surfing. Definitely all of eddies.
The next Christmas single needs to be ed singing 'waaaaaavvvvveesss wwwaaaaavvvveesssss waaavvvveeessssuuuuuaaaaaarrrgghhh' over some acoustic guitar.
I thought the clip was cool, pretty much what I expected.

This actually gets me excited about the unheard songs. they don't seem to care too much about them or care about pushing them, and historically these are often the best songs.

I still really love the art direction for this album and its promotion. The cartoon lightning bolts and the like are really nice.

Yes. The radio went bad because he accidentally dropped it in the water.
