What's the RM speculation on how Mattis' letter will fly with the non-nut job Republicans? I'm deep into Team of Rivals, which has actually been somewhat soothing during this unsettling time, and Mattis' essay gave me the same feeling I get form some of the great patriots I'm reading about. Maybe it's just the contrast with Sitting Bullshit, but I felt a real sense of pride reading it.

The people surrounding him might, tho.

I mean, I don't think he would ever view it in those terms, or with that level of nuance, but I don't think that necessarily means it's not valid. I find Trump is most easily understood as an authoritarian with ADD; every lizard-brain tendency he has skews in that direction, but he's hindered because he lacks the ability to maintain self-discipline about anything.
