I think one reason I still like this album is that it sounds like a rock album again, and not like an attempt to do The Disney Channel

Retrograde might actually be my favorite song on this album right now. It speaks to me in this moment like nothing else. Of course it helps that I'm going through major craziness with work and family, but yeah, the world's on fire and it's saying "Fuck it, let's go!" That sentiment carries over into River Cross. What a beautiful thing.

"It's gonna take much more than ordinary love
To lift this up"
Is such a great lyric for these days.

Sorry to hear about all the craziness....Retrograde is maybe the biggest grower for me on the album.RockPusher wrote:Retrograde might actually be my favorite song on this album right now. It's really remarkable to me how much of a grower much of the album is. Sure, it probably has a lot to do with time and place for me, but it's only the most extraordinary artists that are able to capture the zeitgeist this way, in my opinion.Thurman Murman wrote:As i listen to this album again today i'm seriously debating changing my 4 star vote to a 5.....fuck this is so good.

Listen to Quick Escape then Safe in the Car. Seems like a very similar headspace.VinylGuy wrote:Im blasting this thing, sounds so awesome on vinyl.

2 years ago I insisted here that I wanted the next Pearl Jam album to sound like that. I am unsurprisingly wry happy with Gigaton.ghost wrote:YESliebzz wrote:Listen to Quick Escape then Safe in the Car. Gave this another listen tonight on my walk. Still surprised how well each song stands on its own and works towards a cohesive whole.

“After months of repeated listens, it still feels authentic to me,” and “after months of repeated listens, I’m still surprised by a particular quality that it has” both seem like perfectly reasonable things to feel and share.
