Yeah, I mean, I like this largely because Eddie is my favorite singer of all time, there are some goods songs here, and I specifically didn't have any Pearl Jam-level expectations for it. It's pretty good, and that's enough for me to like it a lot.

You should go back and read some of the posts from right after Backspacer came out; they're night and day in comparison to what people generally think of that record now. I can't remember if LB enjoyed that same initial wave of enthusiasm or not -- probably not quite as much, since BO'B disillusionment had set in pretty firmly by that point...

not to get sentimental on you guys or anything, but I had surgery today (nothing bad, trans-related), and this album was a very pleasant surprise there for me when I woke up; it'll have that association going forward

I remember thinking LB was great at the time. I had no idea they could still sound as good as they do on Gigaton, and just assumed that LB was as good as it could get.

this is exactly my experience of BS and LB; I was completely grading on a curve; it's only since I heard Pearl Jam being Pearl Jam since that they've gone down in my estimation; my problem with all three albums pre-Gigaton is not that they don't have some great songs on (I think they do), but that they were the first Pearl Jam albums ever to have one, two, three songs on them that were so clunky they ruined the experience for me

Earthling has weaker spots but nothing is a deal breaker for me

I'm really enjoying this. I didn't expect it to sound like a PJ album, I just wanted some good songs and this delivers those. Some songs I imagine could have been PJ songs too.

This is a perfect review that fits with where and how I’m enjoying this record.

Aside from the fact that the review disses Power Of Right, I am mostly in agreement. Power Of Right turned out different from what I expected after hearing the live version but still a very good song for me.

Maybe it's the freshness but I would give the album 4 stars overall. 3 is a bit harsh given the quality of most of the songs.
