I have heard the song 3-4 times total. I am sure I will be more drawn to listen when the whole album hits.

I'm similar, though for me this binge phase usually follows rather than precedes the release of the new album. I expect I'll listen to a fair bit of PJ in April/May, going back and revisiting all their old music through the lens of this new album, and hearing how all of the things shed light on each other -- this type of scenario has produced some of the most enjoyable listening experiences of my life, both for PJ and many other artists. Plus there is a lot of potential for really robust conversation, since so many people are actively engaged with the band as a result of the new record. Looking forward to it.oneway23 wrote:I will say, to be fair, I do tend to get heavily obsessive around album cycles for foundational bands in my life, of which Pearl Jam is one. I'll listen to the albums, outtakes, various bootlegs, etc., in the lead-up to release, but not the pre-release singles.

Re: Dark Matter (song)
i usually hear a song differently (not from a production standpoint though) within the context of a proper album rather than a stand-alone son before an album's release.

Idles are indeed a decent bandtragabigzanda wrote:Idles new one really isn't doing this song any favors
however, nothing they have done to date (including the new album) will be remembered 10 years from now.
That being said...I doubt Dark Matter (the song) will be remembered 10 years from now either.
Hopefully Dark Matter (the album) will.

Wonder what the guy down the hall at tree's job thought of this one...Should Talbot pack it in?tragabigzanda wrote:Idles new one really isn't doing this song any favors
We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

Haven’t listened to this since a couple of days after release and I’m fine with that.

Re: Dark Matter (song)
Why is it not okay to compare music that was recently released from another band you love and compare the two?
"Dark matter was released, that was nice, oooh look over here new IDLES, damn that is holding my attention a lot more! I wonder why? let me discuss"

Re: Dark Matter (song)
Besides, yall should listen to the new IDLES!
a song like DM...the heavy production....really tries hard to make it a VERY INTENSE AGGRESSIVE SONG by use of such methods. The song could stand on its own two legs without it. Like many of the more aggressive IDLES tunes.
