I loved the first because of how brutal it was. He was terrifying. I get why carpenter might not like that take on the character, but at least zombie took it a different way. I really enjoyed it. Didn't care for the second one as much.

I fucking loved the first Pacific Rim, and part of what I loved was that the characters were so one-dimensional, and there was hardly any story -- the whole thing was just an excuse for some kick-butt kaiju action. I hope the sequel doesn't get too high-concept for its own good.
