I'm still pretty shook about Bub. Last night I was over analyzing my cat's behavior, wondering if she is doing okay. Cats hide poor health and I have only a rough idea how old she is.

She was constantly trying to fuck with the small Christmas tree my wife put up so I figure she's fine. I just know I'm not at all prepared to handle her loss.

What does it say about someone's mental health when they get too attached to their pets? Is there stuff out there to read on this?

Back when my wife and I were dating we lived in separate towns. I used to hate staying over at her place and leaving my cat for a night. I'd leave a light on and make sure there was plenty of food, but it just made me sad. I never said anything at the time but when we talk about it now she says she could always tell it bothered me.

I love my pets but if you think their love is unconditional you’re wrong. Their love is conditioned on the fact that you provide them with food and warmth and if you died tomorrow they would gladly love the next person who provided them with those things without missing a beat.
I'm trying real hard to be the shepherd.
