Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers, Exile On Main St, Some Girls and Tattoo You are pretty much flawless all the way through. It's like arguing about filler on the best Beatles or Led Zeppelin albums. Or "Dark Side Of The Moon". When someone says those albums "aren't really that good", you kick them in the nuts and shove their Fall Out Boy CD up their ass...end of story.

It's funny, I was actually thinking about how a lot of the non-single tracks reminded me of Zeppelin's bluesy non-single tracks, except nowhere near as enjoyable or interesting. I can't think of any song on Zeppelin's pre-ITTOD albums I would call filler.

I find the "standard" dual guitar interplay of the Stones a lot more interesting than Page wanking about with a million overdubs, and failing to recreate it on stage.

I just think it's funny because these albums have been engrained in my mind since I was 2...they are second nature to me, like any album you've heard a thousand times. In fact these are some of the only classic rock albums that I am not completely sick of...I can return to them and get a "happy drunk" feeling. I couldn't imagine hearing them for the first time in 2016 and declaring them "hard to sit through". But to each his own.

I agree Let It Bleed is a great album. Exile has too many songs I don't love. Can't speak to the others with great authority.

I can see some thinking there's some filler on Exile but I listened to Sticky Fingers last night and not a single note of filler, let lone filler track. The Stones immortal four album run is what album rock is all about.
Beggars Banquet is right up there with Dark Side of the Moon as far as perfection. Sympathy for the Devil is such an innovative song for the Stones. Are congos and shakers the lead instrument? Maybe the piano? It sure ain't guitars but for that mesmorizing and sporadic solo.

The Stones are a lot like Pearl Jam with Jack Irons. There is a "thing" there that people don't appreciate at face value because it seems simplistic. And none of the "clone" bands that they helped shepherd in could ever come close to the real thing.

"Sympathy" is driven by a funky bass line played by Keith. Keith also plays the guitar solo (overdubbed).

To me, the glory of Zeppelin live is how they tried to recreate those multi-tracked albums live. Achilles Last Stand and Ten Years Gone just blow my mind in how multi-track wonders were transformed.

It's very possible my opinion could improve over time. My relationship with those Zep albums is similar to yours with the Stones - they're just part of my DNA.

Exactly, nothing near the two guitar interplay we think of as the Stones. Beggars just drips so much emotion and covers so much musical landscape in a way that is all Rolling Stones.

"Achilles" on the DVD is the greatest thing ever, but there was a little bit of Pro-Tools trickery there. In fact, all of their live albums and DVD's have questionable things done to them to make them seem like a tighter band than they usually were. There are a ton of soundboard bootlegs but they are all badly mixed and dry as a bone, which would make any band sound unflattering. It's too bad they didn't have a sound engineer of Grateful Dead caliber.

That moment in "Gimme Shelter" where the black lady's voice cracks when she screams "RAPE! MURDER! It's just a shot away!" is the most electric thing ever.

I fucking love "Gimme Shelter". I had no idea that's what she was saying!

I understood the "just a shot away" part but not the rest of it. Fascinating. Maybe that lady in Prospect Park last summer was singing this and not just screaming at all the white people she passed?

The isolated vocal track of that performance is cool. It was making the rounds as a Youtube video a few years ago.

Yep. The cracking voice in that exact moment might be one of my favorite musical moments of all time. It's spine-chilling every. single. time.
