No, Dave listened to Animal and wrote Go after being inspired. Angel was written by their drum tech after listening to Dave strum out the pattern to Go.

What bothers me more is that it seems as though they're pretending that what we're hearing in that video is live. I assume (but hope I'm wrong) that it must have something to do with the quality of Eddie's live performance. I hope Lightning Bolt won't always sound as horribly as it did at Wrigley.

On a separate note, Eddie seems more positive and articulate in that video than I've ever seen him. He seems like he's in a good place, whether or not he can sing these songs outside of the studio.

i noticed this too. at least, a lot more articulate than the backspacer-era. it's all that a.m. sobriety he's been practicing.

I would say Lightning Bolt will need some practise but other than that, the performances have been fine. He's not having to down-tune the songs like he did during Backspacer, because they're writing them in the right key for his voice this time. And he's singing mostly comfortably within his range. I think the biggest problem with LB live was the band. Ed didn't do it very well either but the band and singer has to feed off one another; if any of them drops the ball, so do the others.

Having said that, we've only heard him perform two or three songs. The worst thing about FD was BoB's piano and Ed's lack of guitar skills, again not the voice. I think Ed's biggest voice challenge on this record will be Sirens.

Getaway sounds exactly like the decentish type of song people should want from Pearl Jam (Modern). I was pretty depressed until I heard that at the end there. I'm so sick of Sirens already. Hearing Mike gush about it and mention Brendan before the rest of the band when talking about writing it isn't helping...
