I have to admit, Masseduction has been climbing my St. Vincent rankings since it came out. Seeing that tour certainly helped push me towards that album. I also have a real visceral reaction to the end of Happy Birthday, Johnny. It's not my favorite song, but it's probably the one that moves me the most. I remember a lot of my interactions with and feelings towards people before I went into rehab, and that song never really fails to churn up those memories.
Unrelated but I've been listening to Love This Giant quite a bit this week. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed this album. I can distinctly hear both of them and their individual styles in those songs, but those styles easily blend together in so many of those songs.
LTG is criminally underrated. I adore that record.

It really is. It was a bit embarrassing how badly I let it fall off my radar. The upside was it felt like I was hearing those songs for the first time all over again. I played "Who" three times in a row before I even let the album play out in full the first time.

Right on. I frequently put The Forrest Awakes and Lazarus on Annie Clark mixes for people.

I am a few years late to the party but I finally got around to listening to Masseduction. Probably (imo) her most consistent from start to finish. Hang on Me is a great song.

Did you listen to MassEducation also? Any thoughts on how they compare/contrast? Any versions you like more on MassEd?

found it. ill report back with a comparison. my two favorites are slow disco and hang on me and so far i prefer the originals.

Slowly making my way through the piano disc. There are strengths to both approaches. So far it has reaffirmed that slow disco and hang on me are my two favorites. I'm hoping to post a song by song comparison when I can find a few hours to sit down with it.

It's very studio-focused. The good guests talk about the creative process, but bad ones talk about the gear they used. I haven't listened to Annie's yet but I'm assuming she'll be more about the process.
The Jeff Tweedy episode was AWESOME, for any Wilco fans.
I used to write for this mag but these days am just a fan.
