I read The Day of the Locust and it was basically the same experience.

That's on my list, it does sound pretty good.
I finished "Brave New World" and it was an odd read. It was like there were four books in there, all trying to come out, but only two actually got any attention. I might have to read it again.

I remembered this morning that I read his next book Undermajordomo Minor because it was available at the library when The Sisters Brothers wasn't. Very funny book.

My current audiobook is What If? and Wil Wheaton narrates it. Man he's got a smarmy way about him. It kind of fits here though, i guess? So far the nerd humor of XKCD works with his voice, whatever that means.

Finished this last night. Couldn't put it down. Great book. You can totally see James Cameron mined this book of a lot of ideas and watered them down for Avatar. This book is far superior than that and really engaging and intriguing. Screaming for a film adaptation. Can't recommend it enough. And it's just the first in a series of 5. Jumped straight into the second one and it's shifted focus to a different part of the military orginisation and the view from there. Really brilliant read if you're at a loose end.

I think I'm going to have to look into scalzi's work. I just spent 20 minutes scrolling through various book descriptions on Amazon for this guy and im baffled how ive missed reading any of them. I almost exclusively read science and speculative fiction yet don't own a thing by him.

I really want to get in a canoe or a kayak soon.
This one is a musing on conservation, nature and the history of a land (specifically North Central Texas, but the story could have come from anywhere.) I'd recommend to anyone who is a fan of any of those things.

The prose can be kind of grandiose at times, but the subject matter lends itself to that. I love how he weaves thoughts on his current position floating the Brazos with bloody and haunting stories that have occurred along the banks and in the nearby towns. Kind of like Robert Pirsig meets Larry McMurtry with a few Cormac characters and scenes sprinkled in there.
