Great version - love this song!

Got a hold of this today--this song fucks!

I had chills listening to this version. God damn.

This is great. It is so very much of the zuma period. Just a great song regardless.

I like many aspects of this version but i think i still lean towards the Rust release. The guitarmony is great in the originally released version.

but this is so "Ditch", so ragged, so on the verge of Collapse that its such a great listen.

I have loved virtually every Neil Young archive release, but I think I can count on one hand the number of times one of these alternate versions has bested the original one. For someone so notoriously fickle, Neil really does seem to have a knack for keeping something back until the time is right for it (I loved the Homegrown version of "White Line" for example, but I don't think it touches the version he did with Crazy Horse fifteen years later, and somehow he had the sense to resurrect that one song at that particular moment). I don't know, maybe I'm just defaulting to what's familiar, but so far I haven't heard any of the archived versions of familiar songs and thought, "Oh man, I have no idea why he didn't release that!" Usually I can kind of understand why.

Still, so glad we're getting all this stuff now.

Some for sure, but I bet not all -- I can certainly hear where the Dume take of "Powderfinger," some of the stuff on Hitchhiker, etc., would feel "not quite ready" to Neil. And for as much as he seems like an artist who would be content to release things that are "not quite ready," I feel like with the exception of Tonight's the Night, most of the albums he released during this period feel pretty well-thought-out and curated, even when they mix tracks from disparate songwriting periods. Whether they actually were I guess is impossible to say, but the abundance of alt takes from these archive releases certainly make a case for it.

Amazon saying Tuesday for me as well.

Check your order. Amazon soft-cancelled mine today, telling me it was delayed until December/January--since the Performance Series releases do tend to go OOP, I cancelled with them instead of waiting and ordered through a 3rd-party seller that was offering Prime delivery. Should arrive Friday.

I listened to Dirty Old Man the other night for the first time and I had this thread open. I was memorized watching this guy rock out as I listened to it. Felt totally in sync and enhanced the song listening experience

So I'm fine without buying the whole vol 2 set. However, I was thinking of buying a bluetooth adaptor to hook up to my stereo so I can stream that bad boy in high quality. I was looking at the Audio Engine thing for $180 (ugh), but I think I gotta do it. Anyone have experience with those or anything similar?

So Neil's site just announced a pre-order for a DELUXE edition with "subtle art differences" for those who couldn't get the limited edition of Achives Vol II. Those who ordered the first limited edition will get a letter of authenticity with them.

I bit the bullet and ordered the first limited edition. I hope I didn't overpay just to get a letter of authenticity. I don't really care about it's collect-ability and just wanted the box set to enjoy the music.
