Ed's been wearing a lot of hats lately. Must be going bald.

Also, i guess he's in town, so looks like he could show at the TotD show tonight or tomorrow

The main reason I'd like the band to continue to tour is for live versions of new material. The live aspect has always been especially important to the band, but personally, I'm happy if I see them once every five years. I'd love to get a new album every two years. New material is always higher on my priority list than another show.

Ideally, if they could pull off a schedule like this, I think fans would be more than happy.

Record/Release album: 1 year
Tour: 4-6 months
Write/vacation/small tour/festivals: 1.5 years

Repeat this 3 year cycle. Fans would be THRILLED with a scenario like this. And it seems completely do-able considering over the three year period the schedule allows for 50% vacation/writing time. Fans that crave new studio material would be happy with a new album every three years, and fans of the live show would always have something to see or look forward to. Sadly, PJ seems to be in no hurry to do anything like this.

I am calm. He should be proud of his band. But his wearing the branded hat just suggests to me that he's viewing it more as a business or organization, rather than a band. Just like if any other band wore their own merch. It's weird.
I hope Trump inspires pearl jam to return to such important 90s themes as whether or not it's lame to wear the shirt of the band you're seeing.

Agreed.

This post just made me realise it's been over 10 years since I've had a chance to go to a Pearl Jam show that I really enjoyed. I live in Aus now and the 2009 concert was in a horrendously large stadium and was okayish (sort of). 2013 was at a festival and was a clusterfuck.

Those have been my only two opportunities, yet I've maintained my 10C membership this whole time. Jokes on me, I guess.

The dream back around 93-95 was to see PJ in a club environment and then do their thing.
I kinda got that at my first show. Only about 3000 people there. But it was no code and all a bit insular.

Then 09 saw them in a 1500 capacity venue in London and saw the weird change. This version of PJ doesn't work at all in that small environment. They're playing a stadium show in a small theatre. Just didn't work at all.

That said it doesn't mean they're any good at the stadium show. Hyde park was 80,000 people or whatever and they didn't connect at all. Despite their best efforts. So if they're to to continue doing that and they will they better do it more and get good. I know Ed at least studies people like Bruce and U2 and how to work those big huge rooms. But it's still hit or miss and very often it's about choice of setlist on the night. They might need to start standardising the sets to hit that level of energy.
That could either be a downfall for them or where they hit their stride on that level.

would you trade:

- no new music from pj, but fairly regular (every year or two) touring

for

- a permanent return to the original corduroy bridge

?

yes. I haven't actually purchased their last 3 albums. in part because mp3ism, and in part because they suck worse than when I accidentally get butthole sweat on my hand and then touch my face. and then can't stop smelling it. and then intentionally wipe some more on there, so I can keep smelling it. mmmmm

or they could bring back Dave A and only play songs from the first 3 albums

it would be pretty impossible not to connect with that

unless the crowd was composed entirely of alt-left spaghetti-wrist earthenware artisans

Opposite for me.

I'd still die happy if there was never another PJ record, but I'd be super bummed if I've already attended my last PJ concert.
