I want to hang a banner off my roof with a picture of Gigaton saying: THIS IS WHAT PEARL JAM SOUNDS LIKE! I feel like it's not getting a whole lot of exposure.

Could not agree more! Their best "fit" with Matt for sure! Consider his work on Superblood Wolfmoon- a song which under BO'B would likely have been much more run of the mill and not give Matt such a long leash. Unlike the last few albums, Matt distinguishes himself in a big way on just about every track here.Got Some wrote:Gigaton is their best album with Matt Cameron imho.
Matt sounds immense on this album. I love his work on River Cross Just because it’s not a tune I thought drums would feature as well as they do.

I like that he’s plays so differently from track to track. Sometimes a straight rock, sometimes the drums sound like something off a prog Rock album, sometimes they sound like a drum machine, sometimes it’s appropriately sparse while others busy.RockPusher wrote:Could not agree more! Not that anything needs to be done to the album as is. But... I'm listening a version that's tweaked just slightly. It really works for me. All I did was remove Never Destination, put Buckle Up right after Seven O'Clock, then Long Way into the remaining three as is. It's a fun variant.

My only variant would be to see how TTLW worked with a bassline.durdencommatyler wrote:Not that anything needs to be done to the album as is. But... yeah, i agree with this. His work in the first 4 tracks is so fucking different and good.liebzz wrote:I like that he’s plays so differently from track to track. Cut the first half of Retrograde. Use the second half as a soundscape (like Arc) to end the album. Do that and Eddie will be getting on his tux to collect Album of the Year at the Grammys.Monkey_Driven wrote:I've removed Retrograde...

I’m with this if River Cross can be slotted somewhere on Stray Cats.lecherouslittlestump wrote:Cut the first half of Retrograde. Use the second half as a soundscape (like Arc) to end the album. Gonna burn a Pearl Jam album onto a CD for a friend, who is not familiar with them at all, and I would rather burn something from the last 10-15 years, to indicate where the band are now, and of the last 2-3 albums it's either Gigaton or Backspacer.

Yeah I was wondering what is a good (recent) introductory PJ album, and I actually think Gigaton has enough idiosyncrasies to intrigue him.Leatherhead wrote:Gigaton is the only answer.burl jam wrote:Gonna burn a Pearl Jam album onto a CD for a friend, who is not familiar with them at all, and I would rather burn something from the last 10-15 years, to indicate where the band are now, and of the last 2-3 albums it's either Gigaton or Backspacer.

Re: Gigaton: Official album thread
The length of time between Backspacer and Gigaton is roughly the same as the length of time between Ten and Binaural.
Further proof that this band has sucked ass since 2002
