Still loving Gigaton. Listened to Let It Ride for the first time in a long while and could hear Dance of the Clairvoyants in the outro...maybe it's just me. I still can't quite believe that song didn't make it to a studio album...

Just fantastic, even through the lens of low expectation, it stands up.
I’m really happy for them because I figure they needed it as they were on their last legs. They knew what we knew and that’s a tough spot to be in, despite their laid back front. The time between drinks explains it...
Only low point for me after many listens is “Quick Escape”, save Mike’s rocket launch solos.
Two thumbs fresh.

They're in their 50s and still making some pretty good music. 2020 has been the shittiest year, so I'm grateful this album came out when it did.
I'll die happy knowing they still had it in them.

It was actually suppose to be called NOT-A-GIG....mastaflatch wrote:Geez, Gigaton GIG - A - TON
Wow
but then they thought the fans might start rumours that the band was retiring, so at the last minute it became Gigaton with climate change themes added!

if nothing else, that's a long time to spend sucking ass, proving they have the stamina of godsguitar_davey wrote:Proof!lecherouslittlestump wrote:The length of time between Backspacer and Gigaton is roughly the same as the length of time between Ten and Binaural.

Re: Gigaton: Official album thread
I've listened to this so much and love the album. The best since the 90s, IMO. But River Cross still doesn't really work for me. I know he wanted to end the album with lots of "CAN'T HOLD US DOWN"s to perform live every single night but I just think the song could be a lot better. I don't think it sounds very good in any aspect.
The part that goes "Drifting off in the undertow, Can't spot a figure on dry land" I like the chords on that part, but its pretty shortlived.

I like it but I know what you mean, it sounds better when I manage to not imagine people singing along. I love the very ending, kind of reminds me of the end of the studio version of Baba O'Reilly.mikejasond wrote:I've listened to this so much and love the album. The best since the 90s, IMO. So basically, Johnson and May spent Trump's presidency fighting each other over how best to sell the NHS to Trump.

that ending where the instruments sort of devolve into a little mess is a nice touch of No CodeLet's all laugh at Rangers wrote:I like it but I know what you mean, it sounds better when I manage to not imagine people singing along. idk, I think the song has a few idiosyncrasies that are questionable but to me it's just so endearing overall and reminds me so much of the type of Pearl Jam I love

I too love the ending- it recalls that loose creative vibe they had in the early days.Let's all laugh at Rangers wrote:I like it but I know what you mean, it sounds better when I manage to not imagine people singing along.
