I have been listening a lot to those jams that leaked and Quick Escape sounds like 1993 PJ.

Listened to Gigaton today for the first time since May or June or so -- skipped through a few tracks but overall it sounded great. Tracks 1-4 and 7-9 are the sweet pockets of the album for me

The band sounds so good in studio in this album and other Josh releases...i love how the guitar tones and specially the drums...LB was a really low point for the drum's sound.

This is going to be controversial, but these days Gigaton feels like the album they should have made after Vitalogy if the band wanted to keep a high profile.

I listened on CD for the first time (streamed and vinyl before it), just to tease out all the details. There’s a lot of little sounds in the back of Alright that I never caught before. Otherwise, it still sounds great. I mentioned this on the Get It Back thread, but I still really love that this album is such an adventure, with songs taking twists and turns and never staying in a stagnant place. Superblood Wolfmoon done with a different producer at a different time might have been a boring pop punk piece, but with Josh Evans and this band sonically pushing themselves, it’s more like a mosaic with the tiles rearranged but still making sense. Those sorts of twists and turns might never have been in the Pearl Jam repertoire before. It’s really impressive they could be open to that after 30 years together.

Or after Riot Act.

They did that with Avocado. Of course, maybe the result wasnt as strong as they hoped to be. But in terms of PJ being out there, going for it, this one feels super in par with Vs and Vitalogy.

Yes- after Riot Act, this would have felt like a slight callback to their earlier era, and would have made tons of sense. No "PRAMG".

Avocado is such a strange album. From the package design, to the tracking choices (grrrrrr!!!), to the production, nothing really makes a whole lot of sense. However, especially with the spotify mix, I really like a lot of it.

I came to realize im a huge Avocado fan.
I loved it when it came out and after the 2006 tour i became disappointed with the second half. I still think its the weak link of the album, but these last couple of years it gained a lot of attention from me.

I haven’t heard Avocado in quite some time. I do really enjoy the album unapologetically.

Production/mixing is the glaring issue with Avocado.

I don't find many of the S/T songs to be all that memorable. I appreciate the compositions but they lack the "soul"/authenticity of much of their other work. I can't really explain it. The production certainly doesn't help.

I love them. The first 4 are unbeatable for me. Then Parachutes, Big Wave, Army Reserve and Inside Job are favorites. But yeah, the production is super weird.

I agree with M_D that Avocado feels like it’s missing soul. It is difficult to determine why that’s the case, but it definitely feels that way.

I actually really dislike the beginning of Avocado. Never liked WWS. Life Wasted is pretty meh. And Comatose rarely hits for me. I like the middle 6-7 songs best. And Inside Job was definitely one of the weakest album closers (until the next two records came along). To me it’s pretty clearly a step below everything that came before it.
