All I’m sure of right now is that Gigaton and Binaural are he best, and Backspacer and LB are the worst.

I really like BS.

Lightning Bolt is their weakest and worst sounding album for me.

S/T is probably their most calculated album. They really tried to make something grand and missed the mark a bit. The seams show, but the effort is appreciated.

It continued with Backspacer and Lightning Bolt with mixed results. Gigaton really seems like their most organic release since Riot Act.

Or after Riot Act.
They did that with Avocado. Of course, maybe the result wasnt as strong as they hoped to be. But in terms of PJ being out there, going for it, this one feels super in par with Vs and Vitalogy.
Avocado is such a strange album. From the package design, to the tracking choices (grrrrrr!!!), to the production, nothing really makes a whole lot of sense. However, especially with the spotify mix, I really like a lot of it.

package design lol

Thank you for putting into words something I've been wanting to express. PRAMG was the sound of them "trying" rather than just doing it. I remember reading about how Ed was trying to make his songs more accessible. WTF? Just do what you do, man!

When you think about it, having their own studio, years to put it together and a humble new producer who kind of fell into the job *should* set them back on this path. It's just kind of a miracle that it all actually happened.

I still can't name five tracks on this album. They are so forgettable that they flit out of my head as quickly as they flitted in

What are your examples of "good" Pearl Jam?

It might be a great follow up to Vitalogy too.

Every time I finish a full listen, this is kind of what I find myself thinking, too.

Just start at the beginning and start naming them in order -- you'll get there in no time!

bad things come in 3, so maybe that's what happened with Avocado, Backspacer, and Lightning Bolt.
