Re: April 3rd- Buenos Aires, Argentina
It was a really good show. Sorry I couldn't do the relay, the signal was awful.
A few small observations.
- Very pleasantly surprised with the setlist. I expected a repeat of the Brazil show and instead got a really unusual first set, during which I legitimately didn't know what was going to happen. It didn't follow the standard template. That was great.
- I don't know what the mix was like on the feed, but the sound was really weak at the show. PJ's crew need to get their act together. The overall volume was lower than it should be (a gust of wind would swoosh by and obscure certain frequencies), Stone was barely audible during certain songs (did he even play in "Got Some"?) and Matt's snare sometimes sounded like he was hitting a soggy towel. I'd blame the festival, but other bands playing that same stage somehow managed to sound crisp and loud. There were vocal complaints in the section around me (and I was on a pretty good spot).
- Someone said "Just Breathe" came off flat-- goes to show the disconnect between what comes across in a live stream vs. actually being at the show. It was a lovely, poignant rendition that resonated deeply with the crowd, and I found myself surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I don't think Stone would've rolled his eyes at the speech. There was terrible flooding the day before and several people died, many others lost their homes. Ed was addressing that, and it was good of him to do so. He still botched the final chord, though.
- Ed needs to seriously drop the "Está Bien" shit. It doesn't work. It's hokey and awkward and it doesn't even fit the meter.
- Argentines have the incredibly annoying tendency to make every second of music into a "whoa-ohh" chant. After going to concerts in this country for 7 years, it's starting to get old. The band loved it, though.
- Heartbroken to find out that I came close to hearing "Present Tense". That would've been wonderful.
- No Avocado and only 2 Backspacer songs, which I was fine with. No Binaural, either, which I'm not so fine with.
- Jeff and Mike switched instruments during the final RITFW jam. Most of "Yellow Ledbetter" was sung by Ed as he was going through the contents of a wallet someone had thrown on the stage.
Overall, good show. It would've been great if it weren't for all the sound issues-- "I Got Shit" was rendered a whimpering facsimile of the studio track. Very glad I went, even if the festival itself was kind of a harrowing experience (so much mud). As much fun as I had with Pearl Jam, my favorite band of the day was The Hives, who even made a reference to "The Fixer" during their set.

I thought Just Breathe sounded good on the feed, and I think it gets better live as time goes on. Ed certainly plays it a whole lot better now than on the record. It was strange of him to stop in the middle of it and talk and then go back into it though.

Glad you (mostly) dug it, Jorge! That main set was a really nice mix. The stream was great fun, they should do that all the time.

That looks like a really solid enjoyable set. I agree about just breathe though.
Kurtleon, first nights always feel a bit rough. Pj always open in Dublin and it always feels a bit rough, then the night after is always amazing. They played Belfast after Dublin last time and it was one of the best shows I've seen them do.
Same with Manchester 1&2 last year. 1 was pretty bad, 2 was incredible.

How far do you suppose we are from "Eddie Vedder Presents: Ten Live"?

Re: April 3rd- Buenos Aires, Argentina
ok, some views of the show:
Great show...for me it was a better show than the one in 2011 in Argentina, the band sounded tight and eddie sounded very good...High energy from everyone in the band.
It was really weird for me because of personal reasons, my life is very different and as i was going i could tell it was going to be a very moving night for me, no matter what the setlist were...and it was...
Last night i was thinking that one the powers of this band resides on how moving their songs are and how their meaning can change every time...Black means a different thing for me than back then, i got shit has a different meaning...fuck, even fucking save you is about something different.
Thats why we come back to them every time, right?
Overall it was a good show with a cool setlist, with some weird placements ( really cool to have Even Flow as a second song, and Lukin as a third one..i dont know why)...and some other highlights like I Got Shit, Black, In Hiding...i did like it the "esta bien" Tag...i know is cheesy and weird but it was a fun moment and the crowd liked it...
Anyway, great show.

Tough love worked: A much better setlist. The guys are capable of putting together a nice mix of songs for a festival.

More of a hard core fans set than a casual fans. Wish they'd do that more often.stonefury wrote:Tough love worked: A much better setlist. The guys are capable of putting together a nice mix of songs for a festival.

does he ask for a hit of acid after he's done singing release?
