It's a jarring comparison to say the least.
Yeah, it's very unflattering for latter-day Ed. He sounds so forced and overwrought compared to the first verse
Jarring, indeed. At least he didn't say "all big fucking trip"

True, but he replaces it with something that sounds kind of like "all en-yeah-compassing trip"

I definitely noticed, but the contemporary vocal elements come in after the actual vocal transition so it eases into it.
I liked this. It's not as good as the original, but I like the live feel. I like the new music. And I almost always enjoy later revisiting of earlier songs to see how the artist's understanding of the song has evolved (especially in a song like Present Tense that was so changed by the live experience). It doesn't replace the original, but it offers a fresh perspective on it that will best case expand on the song or worst case help remind you why you feel for it in the first place).

One thing it reminded me of was how serene the original studio version of this is, compared to pretty much all live versions. Not a vibe that appears a lot of other places in the catalog. I enjoy live versions too but it definitely loses something by becoming a singalong.

I wonder why they chose to re-record it rather than go with the original. To fit the more "acoustic feel" of The Last Of Us?

He didn't sing it at the show last night either, that was a nice surprise.

It seems like they're redigesting past regrets with they way they originally recorded it.

Yes. Hopefully he keeps doing it this way

I can't save "Future Days" from any angle, but "Present Tense (Redux)" sounds good.
Good enough to fetch the physical EP? Maybe not, but I got it anyway.
