No wonder it sucks.
BoB was probably reading the PJ forums and took note about how much the "fans" hate Matt's songs. So we get two more MOR Eddie songs instead. Yay! Moving units, moving units...

He played Switch Opens with the house band (and sang lead vocals!) during the John Goodman / Joanna Newsom episode.

I have no idea what songs Matt Cameron wrote for PJ, but I will say that I think he is the biggest factor in PJ's decline (besides Eddie's weakening vocals i guess...but studio wise I mean as well)
What I loved about Pearl Jam in the first four albums was they had this awesome groove to them. It was grungy music but with a groovy hard-hitting background. When Cameron came in that was completely lost, and it made them lose their sound. And live he rushes EVERYTHING.
Pearl Jam without groove is

His playing is hard yet can go into these loose jazzy rolls then just explode right on the one. The feel of all the songs is just spot on with him, he defines all the PJ songs perfectly, yet keeps them fresh show to show. He really mixes it up if you listen closely, his playing is never the same on any given song from show to show, a genius. I listen to shows and just focus on the drumming, he is just too good. A true legend. Made PJ perfect.
loose jazzy rolls?! Not in the last 10 years....I mean...Metronomes play to Matt.
I am not a fan of Matt (since RA), but I don't place my lack of enjoyment squarely on him. In the last 10 years, live and on record...the band seems to have one volume....loud...and one tempo...fast. Evenflow and Rearview sound like they are being played in double-time. It really takes the heaviness out of the tracks. Again, not sure it is cameron, but his style seems to be conducive to what I am hearing.
So much this...so much. Given to Fly live...Even Flow live...it lost all groove for just fast boring playing.
Seriously the decline in Even Flow is so sad. I listen to live shows enough, then listen to the studio track for the first time in a while and go "O__O this is AWESOME....what happened to THIS band??!!" Seriously that song is SO good on the track. But live it has nothing that made it good.

Matt's one of the two guys that can save this band.

Pearl Jam needs to start playing to Matt's strengths, not the other way around.

Yep. See You Are, Cropduster, Unemployable, and Army Reserve.
I would much rather see Matt Cameron try to match himself to Pearl Jam...than have PJ change who they are to try to match Matt. Sure those songs use him better, however those songs are not as good as PJ in their prime playing their great songs.
I dont doubt he's a good drummer and he is perfect for Soundgarden but he took all the groove out of Pearl Jam and ruined their sound. They need a new drummer to force them back into that sound.
*Looks up the songs he wrote*
Oh jeez what are you talking about? The best ones? Really? The only one of those that is really good is Johnny Guitar. Save You, Fixer, and You Are are pretty good...the prior two worse off because of the lyrics so I wont blame Matt for that.

Here is the WWC with Ed. Gives you an idea of playing to Matt's strengths and how they can sound with PJ:

Exactly.
They're simply a different band now.
They were already a different band when Matt joined.

I don't know why people want them to go back to sounding like they did in 1994. First of all, as musicians, they don't want to do that. The whole point is to grow and discover as a musician. Sure, there's crap that comes along with that. But this band would have ended 15 years ago had they stuck with that formula.
And I don't know about you guys, but I really don't wanna hear 50 year old dudes trying to rage it out like they did when they were 25-30
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Cropduster, In the Moonlight, Unemployable & Evacuation are some of the band's finest songs in my opinion. Plus the ones you mentioned are also really good.
The Fixer is probably his worst song (nice enough I guess), but the Matt demo had potential to be really, really good.

I really don't consider The Fixer as a Matt song

Matt has been with band longer than any drummer. Matt is Pearl Jam. Pearl Jam is Matt. Get on board or gtfo.
