this is the biggest fault of the album, what happened to this and Never Destination?
I think ND sounds just fine, but I genuinely believe the bass buss was unintentionally muted when they printed this mix.
yeah i can't stop thinking of this when i hear it now. weird.

Great hooks, off kilter beats and changes, cool bridge and outro, always with a certain melody. Quick Escape is the best of the rock songs on the album, but this is the most interesting. Such a cool tune.

I will fucking fight anybody who doesn't like this song. This....THIS is fucking current-day Pearl Jam at their best.

What a muti-headed hydra beast of a song. Cameron is a stallion here. Had to have this one in his back pocket for the SG record.

Part of me like this song, part of me thinks it’s really cheesy. I’m not sure

it's basically 80s speed metal so it's cheesy but awesome

I think Ament is paying people on this board to keep bringing up the lack of bass in this song. That's my only explanation for all the mentions.

I can hear the bass on headphones but yeah, it's definitely pulled way back in the mix.
One place I can hear it quite clearly is during the outro section which begins around the three minute mark, around 3:15-3:20 it seems to stick out a little more.
I can only think those thick fuzzy guitars (which don't really appear anywhere else on the album) would otherwise be fighting for low end space in the mix and so Josh made the call to let them take precedence.

Well said Spenno - it was definitely a considered stylistic choice, not an oversight like some have suggested. Matt probably wrote it with layered fuzz guitars and no bass (a la Sleater-Kinney) and Jeff just had to take a backseat for this one

my only comment on the lack of bass (apart from "shit, there's no bass!") is that at least it helps it sound like video game music, which I'm enjoying

there's just no need though. There's a billion ways to skin that cat and keep the bass in there. So odd.
Can't wait to hear it live to see what Jeff is doing.
If Matt's previous songs are any indication, they'll attempt it, like, three times and never quite get it right.
