There are real people melting down saying ‘this is Our generations Star Wars!’

Seriously.

Still haven’t seen it.

But the orange catholic bible is gonna annoy all the right people up there road from me.
That’ll be good:)

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

$40 million this weekend in the US.

Doesn’t look good for the sequel on those numbers

You can see a shitty Star Wars movie and still come out feeling like you got your money’s worth because of John Williams. I don’t remember a single note from this movie. If there was a score, it was as dull as everything else.

It’s going to get one sequel to finish the story. It’s the kind of movie that fans will buy physical copies of. As much as I didn’t enjoy this movie, I think it promises a much better second half. The world building is done.

If daft twat hates John Carter that might be it for our friendship

You’re kidding yourself if you think those numbers would mean no sequel gets made

I’m sure there’s some metric for determining its effect on hbo subscriptions during its release as well. That has to factor into the decision making for the future of it.

On this scale a film Has to make twice and a half it’s budget and marketing budget to even break even. Heard that on collider though so who knows

i thought it was 2x the budget?

seems like, from what i have read, the movie hit the financial predictions for opening weekend. has anyone read or heard anything about its opening weekend numbers being disappointing?

Putting this on a streaming service while it’s in cinemas suggests they’re just cutting their losses. Fans are loving the film but joe public is finding it a chore. Expect there’ll be a big drop off in admissions at the box office next week sadly.

at what point are they gonna start putting advertisements in streaming movies?

I imagine enough people get a free trial of HBO to watch the new hot movie and cancel after 7 days.

I have no idea what 2021 box office numbers even mean.

They’re not throwing in the towel with it being on HBO Max, tho. People just aren’t going to a movie theater as much because covid is still a concern. When they announced the myriad lineup of movies being released same day on HBO max, it was to get subscriptions up; they find a way to win in the end somehow.

They showed the new Ghostbusters Trailer before Dune. The trailer said "Coming summer 2021" and I LOL'd.
