Yea, I am not putting in my name for tickets until i hear a little more new PJ and have a better idea about a new album.
while i get this, what's the chances it's actually any good? their last actually very good album was Binaural 13 years ago, and Backspacer is either their worst or second worst (for me i think Riot Act has lower lows, but also higher highs, Backspacer is just mostly all blah)

Yes, a new album is probably a curse rather than a blessing.
On the other hand, I'd respect and care about them a lot more if they were pumping out a record (even a Backspacer) every year and never touring than if they were playing lots of shows.

That's amusing but by my calculation, 55% of the population of the US is within a one hour drive of a Pearl Jam show this year. That's pretty good with only 23 shows.

I'm sure over the next year or two, they'll get to the midwest. They did the midwest in 2010, which was really the last proper US tour they did.
They rotate regions and play a couple dozen dates a year now. This is what they do at this point in their career. I thought everyone figured this out by now.
The GA thing is great. I'm pretty sure the feeling from the band toward the "hardcore" fans is sort of mutual. Everyone loves each other, but time to get some distance from the fans who've gone to 50-100 shows. It's stale for those fans, it's stale for the band. Time to get new blood in. There is no nice way to do this, just have to pull the band-aid off.

This was clearly Ed's mission statement for touring.

Thats embarrassing. I get that some of them have families an dont want to be away that long but good lord - they are rock stars and they are home with their families far more than the average working stiff. Man up Do multiple legs at least. Take a couple weeks off and hit the rest of the goddamn country. This 25 show tour shit in the same markets every few years is laughable.
.
Wouldn't the average working stiff like, not leave their families at all over any point of the year for more than 1 week, tops?
I agree, they need to play more shows. Just saying.
Also, there are some cities on this tour they haven't played in a long time:
Worcester (have they ever played here?)
I won't quibble with the rest of your points, but the ONLY reason they are playing Worcester is because it's the only arena in Mass that will allow GA seating without any cost prohibitive strings attached (and mid October is way too late to play Mansfield)

I was at this show......I think the lack of enthusiasm for this particular song by the front rowers had him a bit testy. On top of that, he hardly drank that night, had 2 smoke breaks, and probably realized "Geez....the more I sweat...the more you can see my scalp". I was seated on Stone's side of the stage, and remember early on him staring over at us for like 15 seconds ( bordering on creepy).....maybe the band is experimenting with heavier drugs now. Either way...kick ass show!
