I expanded my typical rating scale to include negative numbers just for this song.stupidmop wrote:turd. gets a 0

Re: New Song: Future Days
This is one of the worst songs I have ever heard coming from any member of this band. I don't know how in the fuck I thought this was enjoyable in any way a couple of days ago. Boring music, terrible lyrics, and just utterly pointless.

I've had the opposite trajectory. Once someone mentioned the "post-apocalyptic" idea I thought it was way off base. Looking closer at the lyrics I think it actually has more going for it than a "love letter" theme.HardTI wrote:This is one of the worst songs I have ever heard coming from any member of this band. Is this the part where we all start speculating about the possible ways these songs could be more interesting than they are? I did that a lot with Backspacer.Thejambi wrote:I've had the opposite trajectory. Once someone mentioned the "post-apocalyptic" idea I thought it was way off base. I wouldn't say speculating as much as giving the proper time to evaluate and interpret what's actually going on. I'm not in camp "pearl jam is lazy and doesn't care" , so I'm trying to see what the connection is between the 3 tracks. There is probably a reason for this song being the way it is in relation to what we might get on the album. Between the cover art and the themes of MyM and LB , Ed really seems to have a over arching theme in mind.harmless wrote:Is this the part where we all start speculating about the possible ways these songs could be more interesting than they are? Re: New Song: Future Days
I really hope so. A coherent theme and artwork and music meshing together will go a long way towards me appreciating this album. I was being a little tongue-in-cheek up there, but in general I ended up feeling that Backspacer wasn't as coherent and thought-out as I'd wanted it to be. I can't remember anything I said about the narrative or concept I created around it.Thejambi wrote:I wouldn't say speculating as much as giving the proper time to evaluate and interpret what's actually going on. I agree about the lack of cohesiveness in Backspacer. I don't think it is as happy or celebratory as some blanket it to be.harmless wrote:I really hope so. Ill admit part of me is looking for reasons to like this song. Lyrically though I haven't had an issue since I first heard it.

Re: New Song: Future Days
man this song is a total snoozefest. i'm trying to imagine where it will be in an album. does it break an album into first half / second half? is it a closer like Around the Bend? agreed with the piano, man that sounds lame. sounds like a song Shawn Smith should be singing over. this song has gotta sound better on record... actual piano, atmosphere... whatever... hopefully.
I'm hoping it works better in context of the album too (unlike Just Breathe). I'm not a big fan of Thumbing My Way, but i feel like it went well within the world of Riot Act.

Re: New Song: Future Days
I think TMW works for me because the song is aimless and lost sounding just like the person in the song. This one goes nowhere and that adds nothing to the song. I can't find a single I enjoy about this track. Even Matt said "fuck this shit".bodysnatcher wrote:man this song is a total snoozefest. i'm trying to imagine where it will be in an album. does it break an album into first half / second half? is it a closer like Around the Bend? agreed with the piano, man that sounds lame. sounds like a song Shawn Smith should be singing over. this song has gotta sound better on record... actual piano, atmosphere... whatever... hopefully.

Do you think 'Catching Fire' is going to be the yin to 'Turning Mist's yang?gardenparty wrote:potentially here:bodysnatcher wrote:man this song is a total snoozefest. i'm trying to imagine where it will be in an album. does it break an album into first half / second half? is it a closer like Around the Bend? agreed with the piano, man that sounds lame. sounds like a song Shawn Smith should be singing over. this song has gotta sound better on record... actual piano, atmosphere... whatever... hopefully.

Matt is such an asshole that I wonder if he's not secretly a RM member.HardTI wrote:I think TMW works for me because the song is aimless and lost sounding just like the person in the song.
