Dip them in ranch and then bbq sauce
Is it acceptable for adults to dip things in ranch sauce?
Moreso than ketchup, yes

I was hoping to get a toastie at the borough market today. The place that makes them there was closed, and they’re not open until after we leave London.

It’s a big city. Probably lots of other ways to get what you want.

Although it could seem that way, that's not actually the case. I've been in London two dozen times (in total spanning several months). I know, there is nothing you can't get there. And I'm not thinking of drugs or guns in relation to this thread.

I googled grilled cheese and toastie:

"Can a grilled cheese have meat?
Grilled ham and cheese is called a croque monsieur in French, grilled chicken and cheese is a croque madame. Yes, you can put just about any type of meat on a grilled cheese sandwich, such as turkey, chicken, salami, or even pulled pork."

"What's the difference between a toastie and a grilled cheese?
Grilled cheese vs cheese toastie – Fundamentally they are both toasted bread with melted cheese sandwiched between them. But toasties are made using a sandwich press or toastie maker, while grilled cheese is made on the stove in a skillet, griddle or pan."

I do have both a toaster and a toast machine at home, but usually when I make grilled cheese, I make them in the oven (and sometimes on the frying pan with a lid). The most used term in Norway for it is a Cheese Sandwich (Ostesmørbrod), altough I grew up calling it a Cheese Slice (which in Norwegian as well, means both a slice of cheese, and bread with cheese), but that's not common anymore for this specific kind of sandwich with melted cheese. I think the closest thing to it in English, is calling it a grilled cheese, not a toastie.

It looks something like this:

or this:

You just hold each slice in your hand and eat it. Don't need a knife and a fork.

Toasties have lids, Anders. This has gone on for long enough.

A few places (like my hometown on the west coast, and on the south coast as well) you can buy baguettes with melted cheese on top. There is usually some sort of sauce and some meat inside. However, I don't really find it when travelling abroad quite like this (although I'm sure it exists somewhere), and it's impossible to find in Oslo.

I think grilled cheese sandwiches (or whatever you call them) are better without a bread lid.

Can we please change the thread title? Very misleading.
