Yea, that's like one of my favorite covers of all time at this point.

I had a chance to see Arctic Monkeys for free a few weeks ago and declined. I wanted to sleep or something. Psssh. I immediately regretted that decision.

Really excited to see Chvrches next month. Is it ok to say that chick is adorable? She won't like go on a twitter rant about me will she?

She's a really sweet girl in person.

I get that vibe from her. Seems grounded.

Saw them a few more times last week.

"Richard Pryor" is just the working title, FYI.

Chvrches’ Lauren Mayberry Told Her Sexist Trolls To ‘Bring It On, Motherfuckers’
Image
BY MICHAEL DEPLAND • 04.23.15

Social media can be a minefield for the worst kind of vitriol, especially for women. Whether it’s about sports, entertainment, or even sports entertainment, there’s an established culture of trolls ready to pop up and say something hateful or disgusting. However, in the case of Chvrches frontwoman Lauren Mayberry, she decided to fight back with a vengeance. The fantastic “Cry Me A River” coverer highlighted a particularly awful commenter on Instagram, and she basically tore him a new one:

My band is lucky enough to have some of the most awesome, supportive and respectful fans in the world and we are so excited to be in the studio making an album to share with them. Yet, on a daily basis, we still receive communications like this. These people never learn that violence against women is unacceptable. But they also never learn that women will not be shamed and silenced and made to disappear. I am not going anywhere. So bring it on, motherfuckers. Let’s see who blinks first.

That’s probably the most kickass way to handle a troll. While Mayberry has made her feelings known about the violence and harassment women receive online before with an essay in the Guardian, taking things to the streets is definitely a welcomed step up. Any day a troll gets aired out publicly is probably a good day, and hearing as a bonus that Chvrches second album is coming along makes it a great one. Ice Cube would be pleased.

I'd say that was a pretty successful trolling...

Chvrches Announce Every Open Eye
Image
By Jazz Monroe on July 15

Update (9:33 a.m., 7/16): During their set at Ottawa Bluesfest, Chvrches performed album cuts "Make Them Gold", "Leave a Trace", and "Clearest Blue". Watch fan-shot videos of the songs below, via Spin.

Chvrches have announced new album Every Open Eye, the follow-up to 2013's The Bones of What You Believe. The album was recorded at their Alucard Studios in Glasgow, and according to a listing on the Australian retailer Sanity, it's out September 25 via Universal. The info has been confirmed by Chvrches' Tumblr.

In our feature "Keeping it Unreal: In the Studio With Chvrches", Lauren Mayberry discussed the album's themes:

Because the album was written over such a long period of time, it’s about the goods and the bads, the beginnings and ends. Personally, I’m in a good place right now, but there’s definitely anti-love songs on there as well. “Leave a Trace” is the middle finger mic-drop. It’s about that point where you’re like, “There’s no point having this conversation anyways: There will be no resolve, I won’t feel better about it, you won’t feel better about it, no outcome from this will actually change my reality.” It makes me feel better to write about that—I’ve done something constructive with it. You don’t put that on other people, you put that into what you do. That’s always the way I’ve written lyrics. My ex-partners are not friends with me, but I’m OK with that.

Super psyched for the record, but that album cover is a whole lot like Power, Corruption, & Lies by New Order.
