I want to see a movie devoted entirely to Del Toro's character. He fucking killed it.
Part of why the Marvel series has been so successful, I think, is that it is arriving at a time when "movie as experience" is the major going trend. It fits perfectly into a moment where theaters are trying to become bar/restaurant/living rooms, and when every studio and director is looking for a way to make their movie pop out as an event or collection of short immersive thrill rides.

Marvel's collection of characters seem like the perfect vehicle for that (if only it was limited to just their movies...), especially since they can so easily balance family friendly fun and adult appeal. Basically, they are able to use it well because of how thoroughly they can embrace it, where the Hobbit tries to incorporate some of its big brother's epicality and just ends up laying there like a turd. When they've done it right, it's been great. But when they slip too far in the direction of audiovisual flash or end up mistreating their story, half the time they get away with it because nobody wants to poop on the party. That, or people are so caught up in the fun of this massive ongoing thing that they don't always realize when it derails a little bit.

I may concede that this movie has slightly fewer lens flares, but only slightly.

I have to say that while I enjoyed this movie quite a bit, it did not exceed my (admittedly stupid high) expectations.

My expectations are pretty low - I'm not a Marvel CU fan. The Avengers was OK, I guess. But I'm watching this at the cinema - the marketing got me.

I thought he was one of the better marvel villains to date.

Again, I thought it was quite good. But I went in really wanting it to be my favorite, and I thought Cap 2 and Avengers was better. But it's not like placing behind those two means you suck

No, he meant "to date", like, romantically.

I was not expecting much at all. All throughout the marketing campaign I thought "this looks dumb as hell" (especially after that scene at the end of Thor 2). But what I got was a surprisingly endearing swashbuckling aventure that took a really generic plot, mined it for comedic opportunities, and populated it with likeable characters. A genuinely good time at the movies, probably the most outright non-cerebral fun I've had in a movie theater since Avengers was released (it helped that the audience I was with was very lively, lots of cheering and laughing). I think that's why everybody seems to love it; it purports to be nothing but a silly movie about space cowboys. I dug it. I'd love to take my little siblings to see it.
