That would make it the only tour that Sleight of Hand sounded like the masterpiece it is.

If I recall correctly 2003 had some solid performances.

good posts. which shows did you see besides virginia beach?

well I tried.

VA Beach, Charlotte, Greensboro, and Montreal

the first three post-rosklide shows. pretty amazing experience.

the difference between the start of long road at VA beach and the end of Smile at Greensboro was like going from -20 to +5.

I wish I could have been at Hotlanta the next day. It looked like they finally ripped fully loose there. I still hadn't seen a release opener and missed it by a day (it took me 12 shows before i finally got to see Release)...

Anyone else remember the cute chick with the biker belt and the camera that tour?

i miss that PJ <sob, sob>

Somebody should do a 2000-tour live version of Binaural

eg. Breakerfall - Greensboro
God's Dice - Nurnberg
Evacuation - Hamburg
Light Years - Pinkpop
Nothing As it Seems - Cardiff/Detroit
Thin Air - Portland
Insignificance - Saratoga
Of the Girl - Jones Beach 2/Boise
Grievance - Pittsburgh
Rival - Boston 1/San Diego
Sleight of Hand - Jones Beach 1
Soon Forget - Seattle 2
Parting Ways - Chicago/Fresno

I was just the other day thinking how much I wish we had live versions of "Who You Are," "Around the Bend," "No Way," and "All Those Yesterdays" from this tour.

Great tour. Glad Lubbock got some love earlier. It's not an "apeman" one, but it should be. One of the most underrated shows from the tour.

Oh, and any "best of" list should include "Immortality" from Katowice 2.

I was checking out some improvs and ran into one from this show (track 14) which is interesting for no real reason other than i don't think i've heard 98-ish to 2000-ish eddie sing that deep before. Actually sounds a little like current era eddie. Just thought it was kinda neat.

All these threads about individual tours are pretty intense.

For me personally, PJ live takes a few forms.

Very early days which sadly I never got to see. The Dave A Era if you will. I am very sad to have been too young at the time to attend shows.

My first was 1996 with Jack Irons. Saw him play 3 times.

Since then it's been all Matt Cameron and for the most part it blends together for me. I just have a great fucking time no matter what.

To me the "difference" or "comparison" between live performances is more about the venue than the year. I don't know enough technically about guitars to know who is influencing what...I just love to see Mike tearing it up and I am happy with literally any setlist that they choose.

So... The live PJ that I have known most of my life consists of arena shows with Matt Cameron. I have been lucky enough to see a handful of more "unique" shows such as Benaroya, The Gorge, and the Showbox. The year(s) that those shows happened is not the detail that stands out in my mind but rather the setting.

There is really no compelling point to this post I guess.

Actually now that I think about it... only saw Jack once. Matt was in by the time in 98.

So many great versions of songs on this tour - everything is so tight, and the sets flow brilliantly, particular the boise, houston, and pittsburgh shows, in terms of great pacing. What really strikes me though, is that listening through a full show, there aren't any bad songs. They are all at least listenable. This stopped on the riot act tour, when you had the odd absolute mood killing stinker like get right/help help/lbc join the sets. Now you have at least a minimum of 5 absolutely appalling songs in the set at every show. The 2000 shows where the absolute live zenith of this pearl jam line up. What a tour!
