But the entire album is outstanding. I like it more than A Thousand Leaves and Murray Street on first listen. Daydream Nation is probably better. But maybe not. Time will tell.

Yeah i get that but i think everyone needs to be exposed to the greatness of Diamond Sea, specially if they are interested on knowing more of this band.

"The Diamond Sea" was the song that made me want to explore Sonic Youth -- the 15 minutes of noise may be a bit intimidating to someone not fond of such things, but it's still one of their flat-out best songs.

I'm not sure if you saw the post VG, but I listened to Diamond Sea yesterday. And I goddamn LOVED it.

If you decide to dig into the earlier stuff, check out Sister. Daydream gets all the love, but to me, Sister is king of the early albums.

For the mid stuff, Dirty and Experimental Jet Set are my favorites, but the latter isn't too popular with most. For the late stuff, Sonic Nurse is tops, without a doubt.

ok, well, most of their discography.

and there's nothing can beat SY live - i've seen them 4 times. once on the lolla tour back in the 90s - thurston bascially blew away 25,000 people in one shot playing diamond sea.
