I'd probably still put The Woods as number one, but I think one of the band's greatest strengths is that I wouldn't argue with anyone saying any album of theirs from Dig Me Out on is their best. That 5 (now 6) album run is remarkably consistent.

Honestly I think their debut is right up there too. Rougher, rawer, and different, but killer.

It's really good, but I'd put it a step below the others.

I generally prefer Corin's caterwaulin' over Carrie's vocals. Hence my love of Call The Doctor. I think it has some of Corin's best vocal performances.

They were not as good pre-Weiss.

They were not as tight as on the Janet records for sure, but I think that's part of what makes the album so great. Some of the songs sound like they can break apart at any second. I think Call The Doctor is their rawest and most intense album.

I do love the first album for its rawness...
but everything post Janet just takes off to a whole other level of amazing, and she just gets more and more intense as each new album (from any of her bands) comes out.
I just watched the Broad City interview that NPR has up, and Janet said Sam really has pushed her over the years to be louder/more dominating in the sound. So a big thank you to Sam Croomes for pushing Janet to such an awesome level. It takes all her bands/projects to new places.

The Woods never gets old. Never relents. Never weakens.
The way "Modern Girl" ascends into blown out fuzz, my god.
The fury in Carrie's vocals on "Entertain", goddamn.
The feedback noisemaking in "What's Mine is Yours", holy hell.
The opening explosion of "The Fox" always blows my mind.
The way Janet drops her sticks at the beginning of "Rollercoaster", such a great touch.
Fuck me, this album is just the greatest.

Those 11 minutes feel like five.
"Night Light" has got to be one of the greatest closers in the world.

How come All Hands on the Bad One tends to be viewed as lesser than most of their other albums? What a killer record.
"The Swimmer" is a fuck of a song, damn. Some of their best lyrics.

I saw them 3 times on the tour for The Woods. Few things in my life will ever top that. I love the new album and am very excited to see them as much as I possibly can, but I have to have low expectations based on the idea that they can't possibly top anything I saw them do from 2003-2006.
Another highlight: seeing them open with "Call the Doctor" at my first S-K show in 2003. That shit was mindblowing.

This short interview includes great shots from the "last" Sleater-Kinney show at the Crystal Ballroom in 2006, directed by Lance Bangs. Were there talks about an official DVD release back in the day?

yeah, there was, and they even had something up on their old official site about sending in fan stuff, but that was about it. A bootleg of the concert was up on dime almost instantly, and I had the 8 disc / every song live put together not too long after that. Not saying thats why SK never got around to releasing the last show officially, just seemed like most of the fans on the old SK forum never really pushed for the DVD. It was kind of a, if it comes out AWESOME, if not, we still got the pretty decent fan shot bootleg.
