LV, i hereby issue a word of caution: opinionated, overconfident RMers have not fared well on RM (thodoks, harmless, broken iris, harry lime). tread lightly, or some ignoble fate might also befall your account.

lv, i don't think you're clueless about film. I know you know your shit, but even you must admit to the preposterous statements you make at times. for fucks sake - this is the unpopular movie opinions thread that you started here. if that doesn't speak volumes to the irony with which you approach this kind of statement making i don't know what does

Sorry, I came on a bit strong. The "You'd be wrong." was meant to be a bit tongue-in-cheek. My apologies, sincerely.malice wrote:neither do i, yet you have no problem telling me i'd be wrong to disagree with you...LoathedVermin72 wrote:I don't believe in defining my opinions against what others think.Alex wrote:i've realized that the thing that irks me about LV is that there is nary a "call me crazy, but...," "i know i'm outnumbered here," or a "this might rub you the wrong way" contained within his brazen declarations. there are times we must qualify our statements, so as not to let the confidence of our comments attract ire. when words are uttered as if in a void, there is a presumption of objectivity to them.
But let me ask you this: If you take in a work of art you think is great, but then find out after the fact that the artist is a Neo-Nazi who made the work with racist intent even though that doesn’t come across to you at all in the work, is the greatness of the work now invalidated?

I've read some of that dude's posts. We definitely would not have seen eye to eye on many things. Re: Unpopular Movie Opinions
i have a real opinion about this but i'm afraid it's colored largely by my age and the substantial difference between our generations.
also, i'm fairly tired of trying to knock down a lot of pretense based on what you've all learned at school - I don't mean to discredit the lofty opinions here, or of the hugely savvy ways of this crowd of twenty-somethings - you guys got it all going on in that department and i'd be an idiot to exclaim otherwise - that said though - sometimes you need to take me at my word when i tell you that you don't know shit other than the theory you've been soaking in over the course of your educational careers and sometimes that education is based more on the motivations of the professors than the spirit of the art...
I'm an uneducated slob. i know this about myself - but i'm also very intelligent and have grappled with the idea of art and meaning and creative direction for a large portion of my life, trying to discern what is true artistic value and what place does it have in the world.
i wish I was as intelligent as all of you are, and much better versed in the academic side of artistic value of film and really all kinds of artistic output but i'm not - all I am is perceptive about what is right when it comes to artistic value more often than I'm wrong about it.
if you or anyone wants to argue the merits of sylvester stallon with me based on his artistic credibility I can only tell you I I'm just too damn old to engage in that kind of discourse with people -you want to believe that about him? ok with me - you want to think his action packed block busters are fantastic contributions to the greater body of film work put out in the world? ok with me too.
just don't expect that I'm going to sit idly by and pat you guys on your heads whenever you make these wildly outrageous proclamations and expect to be congratulated for your depth of insight.
it's just not happening for me and likely won't ever.
