Loved AiC in the 90s, liked Cantrell's solo albums very much and always hoped AiC would reform in a form similar to how it is now. Couldn't be happier the last 2 records they've put out are very different and both excellent, while I still give a slight nod to Black Gives to Blue.....The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here is super good as well.

How to do you feel about the Stones, Zeppelin, etc?
Nothing wrong with either I just enjoy AIC ten times more.

I loved Alice in Chains V.1, and cantrell was my favorite member of the band. But his solo output really disappointed (there's maybe 2-3 songs I liked out of 3 albums), and new AIC sounds too much like solo Jerry. Not a surprise, I suppose, but I've hard a real hard time getting into the new stuff.

I never realized how important Staley was to the band's sound until I heard the new albums. Bleh.

I made a single disc Alice in Chains mix not long ago--fit most of my favorites on there. Their best stuff was fantastic.

I'd be more than happy with just Dirt, Sap and Jar Of Flies. The rest of their work is pretty much surplus to requirements.

''Facelift'' is probably the weakest of their pre-reunion records. It has that dichotomous feel of wanting to be really ugly and really glamorous at the same time that just never quite jibes for me, though it's understandable as a transitional moment between '80's metal and alternative rock. It has at least 3-4 kickass songs, though.

Even back in the 90s I could only find two or three things to like about that record.

For mister J Cantrell- I am almost sure there are Only two records. I have the Boggy
Depot album where is in the river with mud on him, and Degredation Trip Vol 1+2 (comes as one cd brown art where his arm apparently fell off, it came out like 6 months after the one disc green art version).
Both are super, and yes there are similarities to Dinosaurs more that Black both of course there are similaries its Mr. JC's band now really. He's the queen bee.

It's been a few years but I used to love Facelift. Outside of maybe three tracks - Put You Down, Confusion and I Know Somethin' ('Bout You) it's a really solid bunch of songs. My first grunge album. '90. Yikes I'm old.

I've always been partial to the self-titled album, myself. I just love the "Again" > "Shame In You" > "God Am" trio. So, so good. Actually, that whole album is really, really good.

Nothing gives me serious pangs of nostalgia like Got Me Wrong. I miss those days.
