This guy gets it.LoathedVermin72 wrote:I'm not convinced those other albums fulfill the same sonic or emotional space. They certainly don't sound like HTTT to me. Kid A has a completely different soundscape (much more ambient, heavier on the electronic side). Amnesiac is jazzier, looser. HTTT sounds singular in their discography to me. Earthy, warm, romantic, dreamy, sinister, mean, cutting, and even aggressively rocking in ways those albums aren't at all. Adding in the more conventional rock instrumentation from The Bends and OK Computer to what they explored in those albums is a huge step forward, even if they take, in a manner of speaking, a step back to do it. It's a vital link that ties their catalog together.

2+2=5 = A fresh sound
Sit Down, Stand Up = A fresh sound
Sail To the Moon = a rehash of You and Whose Army?
Backdrifts = a boring combo of Like Spinning Plates and Idioteque
Go To Sleep = It's fine, but they did it better on Jigsaw Falling Into Place
Where I End and You Begin = It's fine, but they did it better on Bodysnatchers
We Suck Young Blood = a boring rehash of Life In a Glasshouse
The Gloaming = Pulk/Pull + Like Spinning Plates (though I do like this song quite a bit)
There There = Optimistic II
I Will = It's the first half of You and Whose Army repackaged
A Punchup... = A fresh sound for Radiohead, but it's a pretty straightforward RnB-influenced tune. Actually reminds me a lot of Elliott Smith's A Distored Reality...
Myxomatosis = National Anthem II (though I do love this song)
Scatterbrain = Paranoid Android + Knives Out
A Wolf at the Door = A fresh sound.
