and stuff like 'Tunnels' (underrated) rise to the top of the pile.
I was under the impression that Tunnels was considered to be one of their best songs. It's my favorite.
Anyway, I have no problem with Funeral whatsoever. Perhaps that grainy, distored production was a product of Strokes & Jack White (garage rock) influence.
I'm sure it was; they were considered part of that genre at that time. That's probably why, although I was mildly interested, I only became a huge fan at Neon Bible. They were moving away from that jingly jangly garage rock sound I don't really like much. Same happened with Kings of Leon.
In general, I think that Tunnels is considered to be good because it comes from Funeral, which is considered to be great by a lot of people. But when I've seen people rate their favourite tracks, often Tunnels has appeared quite low on their lists, or not at all. Not sure why.

Nah, its just flat out a great song, goosebump inducing in concert. Its still my favorite of theirs and definitely one of my favorite songs of the past 10 years.

The lyrics are fairly special too. Charming, romantic, nostalgic, without being at all cliched.

Wow, thanks! I was under the impression they did full cavity searches to prevent any taping from that show.

Listening to that show now. My only slight fear is that the new album will be full of long and indulgent songs that may get boring, even if I like the songs themselves. The last album was a bit too bloated and I wouldn't really want them going any further down that road.

One of these songs (third or fourth song in?) sounds like a slowed-down 'Superstitious' by Stevie Wonder.

Same here. I've listened to it a lot in the past couple of days. Took me a few listens to finally pick out where David Bowie comes in.

The Suburbs was their first record to suffer from bloat...and we already know this one is a double album. Despite its flaws I still really liked The Suburbs. But after this one (presuming) hopefully they get back to records under an hour if its got Suburbs-type filler.

It's not like James Murphy has a penchant for long songs or anything.

I just heard a 7 minute version of Reflektor.
Perhaps all the songs are going to be this sort of length?

Is there another version than the 7 minute version?
They also already said it will feature more long songs:
"In a preview of an interview with BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe (the full thing airs tomorrow), Butler said that Reflektor has a classic double album vibe, with two distinct sides, and features several long, seven-minute-plus songs."

Oh I didn't know that. Thanks.
My local station seems to be playing an edit cos they made a fuss a short while ago about playing the complete 7 minute version.
I can handle a double from AF. just hope I like the rest more than this.
It's come on a little bit but not loads
