Does this really count? I mean, it's a satirical song, tongue planted firmly in cheek-- it's as much "fuck the rules" as "Born in the USA" is a stouthearted proclamation of patriotism.Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:2. Fight For Your Right - Beastie Boys

Sure, why not. Based off the video, there is underage drinking and teens looking at porno mags. Not sure about y'all, but growing up that stuff was certainly against the rules for me.theplatypus wrote:Does this really count? Re: Create A Concept Album
the satire in the bb song is directed at everyone and everything involved--the mom, the teachers, the kid, the partying, the music itself. the satire isn't critical of partying, just at the idea of any of it being taken seriously--a hedonistic anthem, and reckless partying, jerking to porn, these are hedonistic acts. the satire reinforces "fuck the rules."theplatypus wrote:Explain how?warehouse wrote:this is a terrible analogytheplatypus wrote:Does this really count? Re: Create A Concept Album
I think your interpretation of the Beasties song is a little off-the-mark. Here's an interesting interview where they touch on the subject. The Springsteen song does take itself much more seriously, but they're comparable insofar as both songs were misconstrued by a large contingent of the subjects they were deriding.dkfan9 wrote:the satire in the bb song is directed at everyone and everything involved--the mom, the teachers, the kid, the partying, the music itself. the satire isn't critical of partying, just at the idea of any of it being taken seriously--a hedonistic anthem, and reckless partying, jerking to porn, these are hedonistic acts. the satire reinforces "fuck the rules."theplatypus wrote:Explain how?warehouse wrote:this is a terrible analogytheplatypus wrote:Does this really count?
