I think the TotD album is largely pretty bland with a handful of OK songs, though I suppose the shows could be fun if they include Mother Love Bone and Mad Season material too.
I hold TotD in slightly higher esteem, but this is pretty much where I land, too.

I hate the term "think piece"--it's an essay, which is a perfectly fine and respected form of writing. I'm going to go write a think piece on how much I hate the term.

feel free to throw in some commentary about 'open letters' in that 'think piece' while you're at it

I haven't read that Pitchfork piece but I like Maura's writing a lot. Same with Brad Nelson and Ned Raggett and Jes Skolnik and a bunch of others. Pitchfork has had a lot of talented contributors over the years.

I've defended Christgau on here before, too. What I really can't stand are the Bob Lefsetz...ses of the world.

I hope they make a new album. Would probably be better than a new Pearl Jam album.

I have no interest in any of the reunion/anniversary stuff, but I still think the original ten-song album is some of the finest material put out by members of either camp. It surprises me a bit to see the amount of lukewarm opinions here.

IMO, TOTD material holds up pretty well, and being older now I can related much more than I could back in 91. Other than a awful Hunger Strike during night 2 at PJ20, I thought it sounded great live as well. I'm excited to see what they do with it on tour.
