Another thing I noticed: When Jim Hobart said "We don't care about your SC&P partnership. I don't know if you inherited or what," he was definitely thinking "I don't know who you had to fuck to get it."

All I've ever wanted from Mad Men was for Joan to have a happy ending. I get the feeling this is as happy an ending as anyone gets around here.

If this is more or less Joan's ending, it's more or less a happy one. She has her son. She seems to have found the love she told Bob last year that she wasn't going to give up looking for. And he's a great guy who doesn't force his life on hers (as every other man on this series has tried to do with Joan). She's ending up with a large amount of money, but I'm not convinced that it's even about the money with Joan. She has been saying it is for a few seasons, but she really valued her career. The career isn't working out as well as she might have hoped. But she's young and smart and talented and she can sure as shit do something good in the years to come (perhaps in another industry, though.) She'll have regrets, but she has some serious happiness to look forward to.

Yeah, I've been a bit perplexed by the online comments I've read about Joan's storyline which have generally seemed to take the opinion that her exit from McCann was somehow a bad or depressing end for her story and that her final scene with Roger with heavy with unspoken disappointment that he didn't offer to fix the situation for her (as though he could have?) and that he misread her problems as being all about the money. Roger's advice was spot-on! Take the money and run, Joan - fuck those people.

Even if it's less than she would've made had she stuck out the whole four years of her contract, it's a more appealing outcome than having to tolerate those creeps for a moment longer or losing all of it fighting them in court (which would have probably been unsuccessful regardless). Though she was treated appallingly throughout the episode, her exit was something of a win.

I hope we see Joan one more time. But if not, I get it. And while I still wish things could have worked out better for her, I ultimately agree with Argo and Spenno. Anything too perfect would have probably felt disingenuous to Mad Men. No fairy tales here.

Speaking of which.... Pete Campbell? Did you hear me Pete, no fairy tales here. Guys, I'm pretty fucking worried about Pete.

What a phenomenal penultimate episode. This show just does things completely differently. What an absolute joy it's been hanging around for the past 8 years.

It's not gonna happen, but how fucking badass, ballsy, amazing would it be if that's the last we see of Don? Could you imagine?!! If Don fucking Draper ISN'T in the finale? It won't happen. But it would be so fucking great if it did. I am 100% satisfied with the way it ended last night. I'll absolutely take that as the end of Don's journey.

It's just one dudes review, no spoilers or anything. But I think the guy has some really nice insights. And I think he and I see the show very similarly. Except, I seem to be the only one in the entire inter-world that's dubious of Duck and Pete's "happy ending."

I've really enjoyed Teti's reviews this season.

I seem to be the only one in the entire inter-world that's dubious of Duck and Pete's "happy ending."

I understand the scepticism, and Trudy surely deserves better, but I think Pete Campbell, bizarrely sympathetic jerk that he is, may actually come out of this whole story with a redemptive ending and I'm sincerely happy for him.

God, what an episode - the wife and I were tearing up on the couch over Betty's letter to Sally. I've always found Betty a sympathetic character and this is such a sad way to leave her character after all this time.
