I’m completely rusty on my Tolkien but are they compressing timeline and events in this ? And bringing in characters from all over the place time wise?

I don't know Hobbit/LotR all that well, but believed this to be entirely pre-Hobbit story. Apparently taken from appendices of the LotR books... based on the comment in the credits.

Sorry for the confusion.

This is a thousand or two years before events in LOTR. That’s established.

Just caught up last night with eps 2 and 3. I’m onboard now. It helps that this very much feels of a piece with Jackson’s original trilogy in terms of tone, visuals, etc. There’s some baked-in goodwill because of it.

I had forgotten the Balrogs were all originally Maiar who were corrupted by Sauron

This changes things.

The stranger could be one.

Or Bombadil. But I don’t see how that works as he’s first before all.

Absolutely loved the third episode. So far each episode has better than the last.

I was close. “Weans/We’ens” was used in ep 4 by the dwarves.

Episode 4: the orcs are the best part of this show. Or Bronwyn’s outfit. :heartbeat: This episode felt….dumb.
