Re: The Vinyl Thread: Still Listen On Wax, Don't Use The CD
Why are we all suckers for colored vinyl?
Question: A reissue is released by a band that you like and generally buy some/most of their records but it's not necessarily your favourite band/artist.
The new pressing is readily available on standard black vinyl for $25, or a limited edition (2000 copies) colored vinyl for $38.
You have them both in your hands. Which one do you buy and why?

Yeah, it's safe rap music for indie dudes who don't like rap.
Colored vinyl is pretty stupid. Given the choice, I go plain black. White vinyl might as well be cotton candy.

i don't make a conscious effort to get colored vinyl, honestly. that tomorrow record i posted i had no idea was colored until i opened it, but i immediately thought it was the coolest piece of colored vinyl i had.southp wrote:Why are we all suckers for colored vinyl?

in your scenario, where it was a band i don't obsess over, i'd go the black vinyl route and use the $13 for another record. but if it were pink floyd or pearl jam or r.e.m. or something, i'd probably buy both.
ah, copperplate, a font for the truly modern man.

Agreed. I love colored vinyl so much. I buy vinyl mostly for the novelty factor right now, so I pretty much only spring for it if it's colored.verb_to_trust wrote:Black is boring

I have endless respect for SNC, but he's off the mark on this one. El-P has a liquid-fire flow and an awareness of formal structure that would make a poetry professor's head spin, and while Killer Mike gets through to me less often, when he really sinks his teeth in his fury is infectious. Like Kanye, the non-street-ness of their audience has no bearing at all on their raw talent.LoathedVermin72 wrote:What a bummer of a post, Jesus.super nintendo chalmers wrote:durdencommatyler wrote:Yeah, he's gonna love it. My latest Discogs splurge on some long-coveted records:

Blew 12"

Screaming Life on Blue Marble (yes I should've held out for the ltd edition Orange one but it's like 4X more expensive)

For a 180-g reissue of a '90s album, that price ain't bad!southp wrote:Chris Cornell Reissues First Solo Album, Changes Title To Original Euphoria Mourning

Yeah, I pre-ordered through Amazon.
Now I'm waiting on that one plus the Nirvana greatest hits reissue.

I'm holding off on both of those for now; I've got 6 pre-orders out there in the ether, and come August/September I'm going to have to roll back all ordering habits.

So my record shelving is back up against the window. I have 1 of the windows open but thats on the far right side of the shelf.
point is. My record cases are beginning to warp a little. WTF? The records are fine (for now) but its like the sleeves are starting to shift a bit. Its not like they are getting rained on
