i didn't realize there were only 5 seasons, and 6 might not even happen

He was high as fuck when he wrote season 5. He's talked at length about how he thought it was his best work when he wrote most of it. But then filming it he realized it was kinda dumb with some major highlights. I think that's a big part of why he's reluctant to do a 6th season. He feels uninspired to tell the story and doesn't trust his instincts as they relate to that show and that character right now.

Huh, hadn't heard this. I did hear about how he got super stoned and came up with a whole S5 concept in which he opened his own comedy club, but abandoned it once he got sober. But it sounds like he went back to the fountain for some more inspiration, so to speak.
And to be fair, I'm sure he's smoked during the writing/creative process of the whole series. I just read one long interview and listened to another where he talked a lot about season five and how disillusioned he felt by his own process.
