If I'm buying American cheddar snacks I go for the extra sharp Sargento sticks. Those have a good flavor and a passable texture.

Sure, but are they a great value?

It depends on your values. Tillamook does not make stellar cheese, but they maintain a significant role in the ag sector of Oregon, employing almost 1000 people in their county and serving as a crucial backbone of the OR dairy industry. Not exactly nothing.
gimme the full oral history of the Oregon ag sector.

popcorn made in an air pop machine or on the stovetop is superior to microwave popcorn.

we have an air pop, and it's great, but the last couple of nights i've been making popcorn on the stovetop. i take a medium-sized pot, and add the following:

1/3 cup of kernels
3 tsp olive oil

over medium to high heat, i move the pot around, holding a lid over the pot just enough to let a little steam out. it takes about 3-5 minutes, and nearly all the kernels are popped, nothing burnt. then i season it with salt or whatever.

I'm not sure what is worse: peeling and grating ginger or separating fresh thyme leaves from the stems. I absolutely hate doing both.

Ginger is pretty easy to me. Dunno about the thyme leaves, never done that.

Just pull the stem through a fine mesh strainer. Saves a lot of thyme.
