Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Lot to like but probably my least favorite Coen film yet.
Man, our Coen tastes are pretty different
To be fair I've mostly avoided the consensus lower-tier ones. Never seen Ladykillers, Man Who Wasn't There, etc.
I love both of those! So, you're probably smart to avoid them.

I've been thinking about ASM and if I read it as a dark satire on the trope/fantasy of escaping the suburbs (a la American Beauty) I like it a lot more, but I do feel like they hit the "nothing means anything" gong a little too hard.
