Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I love both of those! So, you're probably smart to avoid them.Mickey wrote:To be fair I've mostly avoided the consensus lower-tier ones. Never seen Ladykillers, Man Who Wasn't There, etc.durdencommatyler wrote:Man, our Coen tastes are pretty differentMickey wrote:A Serious Man.

I've been thinking about ASM and if I read it as a dark satire on the trope/fantasy of escaping the suburbs (a la American Beauty) I like it a lot more, but I do feel like they hit the "nothing means anything" gong a little too hard.durdencommatyler wrote:I love both of those! Re: What movies are you watching?
The movie is only the beginning of the story, without the lame ending. In the biblical Book of Job, a tornado comes and kills all of his kids, so....tragabigzanda wrote:This wasn't lost on me, but the ending is obviously different. The Argonaut wrote:It's the story of Job (I am a Jew)
