So Pete Davidson plays a complete loser. And the movie actually made it clear. I loved the ending. I feel this one might actually be better than King Of Staten Island.

Came reeeeeally close to being too on the nose but I think it pulled it off. Loved how understated the second half was.
yeah, i liked this one. Super on the nose like you say but also the ending was really good. The two actresses were amazing.

I don't think I will ever get over it. My chin is still firmly planted on the floor.
Just... everything. The idea that the movie brainwashes the audience as well as the cult brainwashes her is just...
meta? Brilliant
I'm sure this will be at least a yearly viewing

I like Midsommar. By no means anywhere near the best movie ever made. But also by no means anywhere near the worst I've seen. There's some frustrating and annoying stuff about the movie. But that stuff is largely overcome by what is interesting and well executed in the film. Specifically, Florence's performance, which is fantastic.

I don't see anything frustrating or annoying about it. Can you list them?

It is extremely straightforward, obvious, and predictable; the way each character from the gang is disposed of one-by-one feels like something straight out of Scooby Doo; it never once, for me, reached that anxiety-inducing ominous tone that Aster managed to convey so well in Hereditary; the dialogue is a giant eyeroll. Some things I liked about it: Florence Pugh is amazing, the photography and production design are nice (surprise! Scandinavian vistas and folklore are pretty!), and it's the most realistic depiction of a mushroom trip I've seen on film.

I liked the predictability of it. It didn't feel like a children's cartoon to me though. It felt more like an evil, looming, ominous force behind the curtain, around the corner. And on the surface it was all sunshine and smiles. It is very cinematic and trippy. I was just feeling this "ohh my god..." feeling constantly. Maybe you didn't feel empathy for the characters. I did and it certainly helps. I guess you blame that at least somewhat on the dialogue. The dialogue didn't bother me at all. I liked everything about it. It all worked for me.

I agree with a lot of this. Though, for me, the predictability of it actually added to the tension. That's a large source of the discomfort for me. And I think that's pretty cool and not something I've seen very often.
The dialogue is legit terrible, though. That's one of the most frustrating things about the movie to me.

The Midsommar parts were pretty good, but I wasn't really into it once they started getting into Latesommar and Earlyfoll

yeah, she was great. I love her. And fuck the movie had this eerie feeling, this fucking huge tension since the moment they arrived to that place.
i might watch it again this week.

the dialogue didn't strike me as poorly written or acted because i think it fit in with the eerie vibe of the movie. It felt like a fucked up disney fairy tale or something
