I don’t know why that goofy Fixer-esque “get ready,” but I sure do

that's the first time I've ever heard anything but "yeah yeah yeah" (which I didn't like) but "get ready" is what I'm hearing after reading that... weird! which is it? Amazon Music thinks it's "you got me!"

no after the guitars start, before the first verse; we've been assuming it's "yeah yeah yeah!" but now I've read McP and listened again I'm not so sure

This song is much better on album than as a 'single' and it has grown on me a lot. It's perfect where it comes on the album as a short and fun rocker, and I like that it's in its own lane. The live versions seem fun too. I hope this song finally puts Mind Your Manners to rest lol

I agree with this. I liked it as a single but it feels even better after that interlude at the end of Waiting For Stevie. Running is a fun sounding song for the album but yet it is too aggressive for an album like Backspacer.

This has be the best most complete most intentional and definitely most genuine big rock song PJ have done in a long time. I can’t think of a recent comparison but I’d put this in their ‘punk’ bracket. And it’s better by far than most of them in there.
Everything about it is wheels are greased! firing on all engines! and not overthinking. Just going.

It’s certainly a different league than the two previous. Never destination and take the long way? Kicks the knickers off them. Easily.

Someone should make a pj punk tune compilation.

This comes off so much better for me in the context of the album than as a single

Take the Long Way is a fantastic off-kilter Matt Cameron stoner rock song, you’re selling it short here.

For me, currently, I'm pretty sure I go:

Take the Long Way>>Never Destination>Running

But part of that is just Running is not really my cup of tea. TTLW has some Soundgarden DNA, an absolutely bonkers solo, plus the unique-for-PJ female vocals, plus the weird Jeff infusion at the end. Those aspects all excite me. Never Destination has just enough Who and Petty in it to keep my attention. Running is fun live and has a cool and altogether unexpected bridge, but on an album of songs that generally move me, it's notable for being a little bit less.

But that's just where I'm at currently. TTLW was at the bottom of the barrel for me when Gigaton came out. Things have a way of changing over time.
