Even if we stipulate that Tweeden had some political axe to grind, even after reading that I don't feel like I have enough of an explanation for all the other accusations that piled up after that. As I recall that time, it seemed like Franken had navigated the Tweeden accusation well until all the rest of that piled up.

I've followed Franken closely for years, and the story that came out was suspect for a number of reasons. I think like 98% of the men accused (celebrities or otherwise) are guilty of taking advantage of their station, but that just didn't jive with everything I knew about Franken, and the railroad approach felt really dangerous considering all the good he'd done in the Senate.
I offer no opinion on this thread, but it would go to explain the raw political calculus of the situation.
