A few more horrifying videos from yesterday. Px posted the last one of these in the gun thread but it merits revisiting. "Light em up" makes me absolutely sick.

They have killed and maimed people. And continue to do so it seems.

A girl in Boston was killed by one in 2004.

A quick search shows the first mention of Donald Trump in all of this to be simple a question about whether he had made any sort of statement yet:
Rangi Guy wrote:Has Trump said anything to condem the cops actions at all?
After that, the conversation around him continues to be about his RESPONSE TO this moment....the lack of leadership, the fetishist war tweets about “the front lines” at the White House. The press conference with nothing to say about it and NO QUESTIONS TAKEN. There is no national event, especially one this traumatic, where the president’s leadership response is irrelevant or above evaluation.

But you can stop arguing that Trump isn’t responsible for this man’s death, because you’re arguing against no one. No one thinks Donald Trump caused the man to die. Everyone is too busy wondering when he’s going to stop responding by stoking the fires of violence and emphasizing the political divide.

Josh. Honestly. No matter what you think of the protesters, I don’t understand how you can look at this and not see the indiscriminate and purposefully escalating reaction by a militarized police force as THE THING right now. They’re shooting at people standing on their porches. They’re macing children. They’re driving cars into crowds, running calm, quiet people over on horseback, targeting journalists, and assaulting nurse’s tents.

Nothing any crowd does justifies armed police escalating nonviolent situations or inflicting willful and indiscriminate harm on people they were sworn to protect, period. The power divide between citizens and cops is too extreme to pretend otherwise
.
I actually agree with this 100% and have never argued otherwise. I am not a police supporter in this situation at all. I’m 100% on the side of PEACEFUL protesters. I’m 100% against violent rioting and looting. This has been my position the entire time. If you think I feel differently or have supported the cops at all in this situation you are wrong.

God, imagine how it would have gone if cops had driven police cruisers directly into that line of raging anti-lockdown machine gun-wavers.

It looks like an order has been issued nationwide and the officers on the street are enforcing it with everything they have.
And the order doesn’t at all seem to be ‘keep the peace’ or ‘protect and serve’

Quite the opposite.
There’s no peace to be kept in a full scale riot; they can only attempt to restore order by force. They finally accomplished that last night in Minneapolis after three nights of looting and arson resulting in damages that will probably total over $100M.

Whether it was a conscious decision to let protestors do their thing or a combination of incompetence and a lack of resources, there was minimal police response for days, and the result was total bedlam. With mounting pressure on the Governor and mayors to do something, they finally did. Yes, it got ugly at times and there was some collateral damage, but what was the alternative? Just let the entire city be burned to the ground?

The alternative would have been to swiftly arrest the officers that murdered George Floyd.

Chauvin was arrested and charged Friday, and Minneapolis still burned that night. More charges are likely coming. Justice is a process and it takes time. Had the four officers been bound and released to the mob to be beaten, tortured, and killed, I’m not convinced that would have satisfied them.
