As for the lyrics of Infallible, as long as they aren't terrible, the song will be all about melody and delivery. The Ten anthems don't all look good on paper.

Not a frame of reference that inspires confidence, in fairness

Me too. It's really different to me from anything they've really tried to do. Kind of fuses that garage-y sound from the early aughts with a nice poppy chorus that I can't quite place in any particular musical timeframe.

I want to like it just a smidge more, but I'm not forcing it. However, it does seem like it will fit conceptually right before Sleeping By Myself. So that's good.

Let the records play is the weakest song I've heard from the album so far. I don't hate it though. It's a 2/5 song. Sirens and lightning bolt are both great tracks with getaway closely following. Future days feels too long and doesn't seem to go anywhere but the album version might make me feel different about it. Infallible could be great.

I'm hopeful for this album. It might be a keeper.

Fair enough, but I would compare the new effort to write anthemic songs more to Ten and Vs. than any other records.

Ltrp starts really well. There's some really nice guitar work going on. The chorus just doesn't do it for me.

I have not listened to the new songs in days, and now every time I try and recall LTRP I get In the Summertime. Will listen again tomorrow.
Off to bed now.

groetjes,
Mirella :)

Eddie's writing has been hit or miss ever since Binaural, which was the last album with almost universally strong lyrics from Eddie. But Backspacer was pretty solid across the board in the lyrics department. Getaway and Sirens feel a bit overwritten at times but for the most part they seem solid. So is LTRP. Lightning Bolt is quite well done, and mind your manners and swallowed whole both seem strong--some people might get a bit put off by some of swallowed whole's seemingly life affirming content, but controlling for that it's pretty well executed.

Overall I'm not worried about lyrics being deal breakers.

What we've gotten so far has certainly bit a step up from Backspacer in the lyric department.

I actually really love the verse, bridge and solos on Let the Records Play. It's just (as I seem to have to say more and more with PJ) that damn chorus.

I'm hyped for MFS. Another Jeff song! Could Jeff have written the 4 best songs on the album?

I think Binaural has the best lyrics Eddie has ever done.

Yeah, I want the chorus to do a better job preserving the good things that are happening in the verses. It's a bit iffy for me.

I agree; it's just not so bad that I can't ignore it. It's pretty inconsequential. The next part (bridge?) is great I think.
