Lightning Bolt: the official album thread

Remember that music journos usually just name check other bands in their reviews to show they have listened to 'the good stuff' but also to fit it into the only frame of reference they have.

that's also helpful when you're trying to describe music to people who haven't heard it. It gives people a touchstone

I'm a bit worried about the whole album now.

Why now?

Because of the review of the ones that we haven´t heard. Sounds meh, at least in words.

that was a very positive review. He said it's not a groundbreaking record, but it's very good. Mine said they give it 4/5 stars.

We already know it isn't groundbreaking; the tracks we have already aren't groundbreaking. But they're good, and the more original ones are to come.

Yup. And that s fine with me. I decided 17 years ago that while I would not kick a pathbreaking album out of bed, all I want from pj are good songs to add to their legacy. And this looks like it will deliver that in spades

That is how I feel about every artist I care about. A few classic albums to cement a reputation and a lot of good songs to add to it.


There are only 3 or 4 Tom waits albums ill listen to from start to finish

Rem was the only artist I cared about that had had a huge run of flawless records

Hmm, yeah. It's possible interpretations like this that can get me to ease my resistance to a song (not that I wasn't at least enjoying this one before).
