For those of you that think Chris Rock was in the wrong and shouldn't have made the joke, is it because of the venue? Or is it because you think offensive jokes like that are out of line, even in the world of stand up comedy? I'm personally not a huge stand up fan. I think it's a toxic and broken "artform." I think a lot of it is super shitty. And yes I think it needs an overhaul. Which is why I mostly stay away from it.

Again, what if everyone in attendance agrees to it, even if it is "toxic"? Does that make it better if all are willing? Kind of like fighting sports; it's illegal to hit someone randomly in the street, but because all parties are in agreement it's OK.

I don't think you can call a medium "toxic and broken" and then turn around and say that there are some outliers who are great. That simply doesn't make a lot of sense, on a conceptual level.
